Matching the texture around a patch is what lets the repair blend in.

We agree the finish with you before work starts, and we do not promise an invisible repair from a photograph.

Drywall, sheetrock and wall repairs we handle

Most requests are one of the repairs below, and many homes have two or three of them at once. Sheetrock is a brand name for drywall, so a sheetrock repair and a drywall repair are the same job.

Holes in walls

Doorknob holes, old anchor and screw holes, and bigger openings left by an accident or a removed fixture. Small holes are filled and blended. A larger hole needs backing behind it and a new piece of drywall cut to fit, then tape and joint compound.

Cracks and loose tape seams

A straight crack along a seam is usually the drywall tape letting go. The fix is to re-tape and re-coat the joint, not just fill the line. Cracks wider than 1/8 inch, cracks that run from the ceiling down the wall and cracks on a sagging ceiling can point to something bigger, and we will tell you if your photo shows one. Our ceiling repair cost guide explains which cracks to look at more closely.

Nail pops, dents and dings

Nail and screw pops, furniture dents and scuffed walls are the smallest repairs and the easiest to bundle. If you have several around the house, list them all so they are handled in one visit.

Corners and corner bead

Outside corners take the most hits. We repair dented or cracked corner bead and rebuild the corner so the edge is straight again.

Ceiling patches and drywall ceiling repair

Ceiling cracks, nail pops, sagging seams and holes are common requests. Overhead work is slower than a wall patch: the room is covered, a ladder goes under the damage, and the joint compound still needs dry time between coats. Tell us whether the ceiling is smooth, textured or popcorn. In homes built before 1970, popcorn texture may contain asbestos, so have a sample tested before anyone scrapes or sands it.

Water stains and water-damaged drywall

A brown ring on a ceiling or a soft spot on a wall means water found a path. The leak has to be fixed and the area dry first, because patching over active moisture just traps it. Drywall that is soft, sagging or moldy is cut out and replaced. Tell us what caused the damage and whether the source has been repaired.

Plaster walls and ceilings

Many older San Jose homes, especially in Willow Glen and the Rose Garden, have plaster walls and ceilings instead of drywall. Plaster is harder, tends to crack at door and window corners, and can come loose from the lath behind it. Loose plaster has to be secured or cut back to solid material before a patch goes on. Plaster patching starts at $145, the same as drywall. The plaster wall repair cost guide shows how to tell which one you have.

Texture matching

Most Bay Area homes are not smooth drywall. They are orange peel or knockdown texture, and every house is a little different. Send a clear photo of the surrounding wall so we can agree the finish with you before work starts.

From $145Tru Service drywall repair starts at $145. Your price depends on the size and number of repairs, the texture and access, and we confirm it from your photos before any work starts.

A single small patch is priced close to the starting price because travel, setup and cleanup are the same for one patch as for five, and joint compound needs dry time between coats. Bundling several patches into one visit is the cheapest way to use the time.

What changes the quote?

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Wall or ceiling, and how high it is. Ceilings and hard-to-reach areas take more setup than an open wall
  • The existing texture: smooth, orange peel, knockdown or popcorn
  • Drywall or plaster
  • The cause. A repair after a leak needs the source fixed and the area dry first
  • The finish you want. We agree it before work begins

Send the whole list at once if several rooms need attention so we can review them together.

How a drywall repair visit works

  1. You text or submit a close-up, a wider photo, the approximate size and your city.
  2. We review it and confirm the scope and price. You approve both before any work starts.
  3. We protect the work area, cut out damaged material and add backing where the hole needs it.
  4. The patch goes in, followed by tape and coats of joint compound with dry time between them.
  5. We match the surrounding texture and prepare the surface for paint.
  6. We clean up and walk the finished repair with you before you pay.

The hands-on work on a small patch is short, but compound has to dry between coats, so a proper patch takes two or three passes. Ask us when we confirm the scope whether your repair needs more than one visit.

Should you patch it yourself?

A fair DIY jobNail holes, anchor holes and small dings on a smooth painted wall, with premixed compound, a putty knife and touch-up paint.
Where a patch tends to showTextured walls, ceilings, water damage and larger holes.

We tell you up front which side of that line your repair is on, and if it is a putty-knife fix we will say so. The drywall repair cost guide walks through the DIY-or-hire decision.

Wall repairs for rentals and move-outs

Rental owners and property managers usually send drywall as part of a turnover list: anchor holes, door-handle dents, a stained ceiling. Send the list by property with photos and we review it together. See handyman support for property managers and the rental turnover repair cost guide.

How much does drywall repair cost in San Jose?

Tru Service drywall repair starts at $145. The final price depends on the size and number of damaged areas, the wall texture and access, and we confirm it from your photos before any work starts.

Is sheetrock repair the same as drywall repair?

Yes. Sheetrock is a brand name for drywall, so the repair is the same: patch, tape, joint compound, texture and paint prep.

Do you repair drywall ceilings?

Yes. Ceiling cracks, nail pops, sagging seams, holes and water-stained patches are common requests. Tell us whether the ceiling is smooth, textured or popcorn, and how high it is.

Can you fix a water stain on a ceiling or wall?

Yes, once the leak has been fixed and the area is dry. Drywall that is soft, sagging or moldy is cut out and replaced. Tell us what caused the stain and whether the source has been repaired.

Can you match the existing wall texture?

Texture matching is part of our drywall service, including orange peel and knockdown. Send a clear photo of the surrounding surface so we can agree the finish before quoting. We do not promise an invisible repair from a photograph.

Do you repair plaster walls?

Yes. Plaster patching starts at $145, the same as drywall. Loose plaster is secured or cut back to solid material before the patch goes on. Send a photo of the damage and the edge of the hole.

How long does a drywall repair take?

The hands-on work on a small patch is short, but joint compound has to dry between coats, so a proper patch takes two or three passes. Ask us when we confirm the scope whether your repair needs more than one visit.

Is painting included with drywall patching?

No. The repair ends at paint prep: patched, textured and ready for paint. If you want the patch painted, ask in your request and we will confirm what is in scope before you approve the price.

Is drywall repair messy?

We protect the work area before we start and clean up before the walkthrough. You review the finished repair with us before you pay.

Can you quote a drywall repair from photos?

Photos and approximate measurements help us review the request. We may need more details or an on-site assessment before confirming the final scope and price.

Can I combine drywall repairs with other jobs?

Yes. Include doors, trim, assembly or maintenance tasks in the same request. We confirm what can be completed together and how to schedule the work.

Which areas do you cover for drywall repair?

San Jose (including Willow Glen and Almaden), Santa Clara, Campbell, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Los Altos, Mountain View and Milpitas.
